Dodital Trek


The Dodital Lake is famous for its beautiful Himalayan trout; this is one of the most famous destinations with the natural beauty and adorable viewing place. Dodital trek provides a lot of opportunity to travelers to hang around in the Asi-Ganga valley. Dodital Lake has a mythological history, and it is also one of the best-known trekking places in the present time. It is surrounded by the lush of greenery with clean water which are makes it so beautiful destination for the travelers.

Dodital trek located in the north of Uttarkashi, an elevation of 3307 meters above mean sea level. Dodital trek is a precise trekking destination of Uttarakhand state and also holds potential for other adventure sports. Dodital is also know by the name of Ganesha-ka-Tal and is considered as one of the sacred lakes in the Garhwal Himalayan region as it is believed that it is the birthplace of Lord Ganesha, son of Lord Shiva, one of the Hindu deities.

Itinerary of Dodital Trek

Dodital Trek, which is very popular for the winter treks in the Uttarakhand Himalayan. This trek starts from Sangamchatti and heads to Agoda village nestled at an altitude of 2,250 meters. The trail passes through the river Asi-Ganga and is followed by gentle ascends and descends and passes through a secluded Village named Bherva. From Agoda, a sixteen kilometers journey that passes through the beautiful forest of Rhododendron leads to Manjhi. This place offers such a beautiful environment for trekkers to camp overnight. The trek from Manjhi turns towards Dodital, which is almost six kilometers away and is located at a height of 3,307 meters from sea. The natural beauty and refreshing climate of the lake give you an absolute bliss. Further walk to five kilometers to Darwa Top that passes through narrow gorges and rich forest, which takes you to the amazing view of Bandarpoonch peak and Swargarohini range.

Best Time to Visit Dodital Trek

Dodital Trek is a good choice for trekking in every season of the year, during summer season the weather of Dodital Darwa trek remains advantageously and pleasing. Many students come Dodital for trekking on their summer holidays because it's the best destination for trekking in the summer season.If someone wants to see the snowfall and wants to do snow trek then this trek is ideal in the month of December and January.

Things needed during the trekking

Cotton socks, woolen socks, two pair shoes, bag packs, trek pant, torch lights, jackets, sunglasses, caps, sunscreens, woolen gloves, walking stick etc.

01Day One:Reach Sangamchatti (1200m)

Arrive Sangamchatti which just 16 km from Uttarkashi ,one of the famous town of garhwal region of uttarakhand.Afternoon where we will be waiting Here with our team to welcome you . The afternoon is yours to explore the nearby village and understand and observe the culture of these self sufficient villagers. Overnight stay and dinner at camp.

02Day Two: Sangamchatti – Bherva (5 Hours Trek)

Today in the morning, after breakfast we head towards our first trekking trail and also our next campsite Bherva. Initially we ascend gradually along the Paddy fields of the villages. The route is used by villagers living in villages lying along the trail. After crossing the two beautiful villages of Agoda and Bherva we reach the campsite. After Dinner overnight at Bherva campsite.

03Day Three: Bherva – Dodital Lake (7 Hours Trek)

Today is a long trekking day but with a well laid path and is relatively easy, as we head towards Dodital, it’s a 16 km long stretch and may take upto 8 hours depending upon your pace. We trek along the route and halt at a scenic place and have our packed lunches. After lunch we have to just trek for another two hours of easy trek and get to beautiful Dodital Campsite. The lake is famous for Golden Masheer Fish however fishing is not allowed here as the lake is held sacred by the locals and has another name Dhundital (Ganesh Ji’s Lake) it also is known as birth place of Lord Ganesh. After Dinner overnight at Dodital campsite

04Day Four: Dodital Lake – Dwara Pass and Back (5 to 6 Hours)

Today is our exploratory and leisure day, we start after breakfast and carry only our small bags with necessary items like water, packed lunches, ponchos, flash lights etc. Today we ascend the 4150 Meter high Dwara Pass Top, the top offers almost 360 Degree View of Himalayan Ranges which includes peaks like Swargarohini& Bandar Puchh. After having our packed lunches with this beautiful view,we spend some quality time with some photoshoots and then we descend to the Dodital Campsite. Evening is to relax and explore the beautiful campsite. After dinner overnight at Dodital Campsite.

05Day Five: Dodital Lake – Bherva (5 Hours)

After breakfast we follow the same route towards the Bherva Campsite. The trek will take around 5 Hours and we will reach campsite by afternoon. After Dinner overnight at Bherva Campsite

06Day Six:Bherva – Road Head – Uttarkashi/Haridwar.

Toay is the Last day of this beautiful trek, we have our breakfast’s and head down towards the road head where our transport awaits us to take us back to Haridwar, trip ends
