Acknowledged for its mysterious surrounding and amazing natural beauty, Roopkund is one of the high altitude trek in the bottom Peak of Trishul and Nanda Ghunti. The maximum height of Roopkund trek is 5029 meter which adds to the enthusiasm of trekking experience. The Roopkund - Mysterious Lake Trek lies in the Garhwal Himalayas of Chamoli district which is situated in Uttarakhand state and offers amazing views of different mountains peaks surrounded by rock- strewn glacier. The Roopkund Lake is also known as a 'mystery lake' because in the surrounding areas of the lake there are huge number of giant human and horse’s skeletons. These remains of skeletons are believed to be of approximately 15th to 16th century when a strong hailstorm took away the lives of hundreds of people who went there for pilgrimage.
The place of Lohajung is one of most popular base of this well acclaimed Roopkund - Mysterious Lake Trek which is very easy to get to by Motor vehicles from Rishikesh. Usually most of the trekking teams drive from Rishikesh to Lohajung witnessing the snow covered Peak Mountains, valleys and rivers etc. The original Roopkund - Mysterious Lake Trek starts from the place of Lohajung and passes through the Didna village. In between of villages Lohajung to Didna, there is a small village which is called Kulling. From Kulling starts a vertical climb to Raun Bagad which is partially dense dotted by the oaks and pine forest. All along the walk the trekkers can hear the perceive sound with whistles of the thrushes & twittering of birds.
The track from Ali Bugyal to Bedni Bugyal is carpeted with natural soft green grassland. Those who would like to camp on the Peak of Himalaya, Bedni is one of the most famous or ideal place. Witnessing the evening time reflection of sunlight on Trishul Mountain peak of Himalaya is a beautiful and memorable experience.
The best time for Roopkund - Mysterious Lake trekking is between May to June and August to mid-October. The insensitive climatic condition only gives trekkers with a tiny view to trek between the 1st weeks of May to the 1st week of July. The month of June is the perfect time for trackers to the twin Bugyal /meadows of Ali and Bedni as by this time, because this time the meadows are in their full spring. Another trekking time is between the last week of August to the first week of October because this time the sky remains clear and the weather is perfect for a hike.
Arrive Wan in the evening. On arrival meet our representative and check in to Guest house. Overnight stay and dinner in guest house.
After early morning breakfast we start our trekking to BEDNI BUGYAL via Ali Bugyal. First half of the day for trekking. During the trekking we cross Oak and Rhododendron forest. We take some rest at Gariroli Patal,after feeling refresh to move for Ali Bugyal (Zig-Zag trail & steep ascent). To reach the Ali-Bugyals we find mesmerizing view of some of the famous mountains and peaks like Mt. Trishul, Mt. Nandagunti, Nilkantha Peak, Chandrashila Peak etc. Everyone forget their tiredness. On arrival Beni Bugyal which is 2km away from Ali Bugyal you find Bedni Kund which is very famous. We pitch camp in Bedni Bugyal & time for hot lunch and rest of the day for acclimatization. Sun rise and Sun set of Bedni Bugyal is very famous, so don’t miss it. Dinner & Overnight at Campsite.
After early breakfast, Today we move for Bhagwabasa our next destination. From Bedni Bugyal to Patar Nachuli is the easiest trek of the whole journey. You can enjoy this trek with smiling face. When we cross the Patar Nachuli and move for Kalu Vinayak temple which is situated on the ridge. The route here is zig-zag in the shape. Now the real test start here of your endurance, physical fitness and mental toughness. From here the snow trail has started and for the first time you face Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS) due to air gets thinner, and the quantity of oxygen also decreases, this might lead to headache and acute stomach pain but don’t worry we take some rest here. Bhagwabasa is now 500 metres away straight from here you can see it. On arrival Bhagwabasa, pitch camp in snow and taste hot lunch. After lunch you are free to enjoy the nature and its the perfect time for photoshoot. Thereafter, we take our dinner as early as possible for early wake up .
Today is the busiest day. We wake up as early as possible to conquer the Roopkund. The trail is little difficult due to snow but we use our equipments which made easy it. When we reach Roopkund Lake your feeling is out of the world and you find some change in your personality. If possible, we can try for Junargali which is on the top of Roopkund Lake. Breakfast at Bhagwabasa.Then we will start back to Patar Nachuli where we will pitch our camp in Patar and taste hot lunch. Rest of the day for leisure and photoshoot. Dinner & Overnight stay in Patarnachuli camp.
After finishing our delicious breakfast we move to WAN. We are well versed with all routes of this trek so we take the most convenient and shortest route Shukrikhan via DelDung. This route add some more pictures for your camera/mobile which will mesmerize you again. The DelDung give you a pleasant view of Mt. Hathi and Badrinath Peak. Lunch at Shukrikhan. After reaching WAN, rest of the day at leisure and explore this beautiful village by yourself. Last night of our trek we make bonfire and share our experience with companion trekkers. Dinner and Overnight stay in GMVN/Lodge.
